wrote that a strong tension have been noticed since this morning of the this Thursday 27 April 2023 in the mine center of Nyabibwe located in the Kalehe area in South Kivu, following a conflict between lidership for the management of the center.

Indeed, two chiefs are competing for the power. It concerns namely a “chief” coming from the Havu community and the other from the Hutu community, who has undermined the authority of the Mwami from the chiefdom, Mr. Franck Ntale.

This situation caused a great hysteria this Thursday, as gunshot were heard in this part of the territory, sowing terror in the hearts of the population.

According to a source from the local civil society, all activities were stopped after the uprising of some members of the Hutu community, who are opposing the transfer to the Kalehe prison of the chief of their community, who would have violated the decision of the Mwami (custom chief).

Mr. Thierry Kasisi, one of the focal points of the movement of Parliamentary and Governmental Action Observatories (OBAPG-RDC) in Kalehe, said that at least 2 people were shot and taken to the Nyabibwe General Hospital for treatment.

This social actor and Human Rights Defender pleads for the intervention of the competent authorities to settle this dispute for the peace and stability of the center of Nyabibwe.
