wrote this 9th of May 2023, an unprecedented initiative came to life in Kinshasa, capital of the Republic of Democratic Congo. Focused on ensuring companies’ compliance with sub-contracting standards, the launch was discussed during an information session presided over by Miguel Katemb Kashal, General Director of the Private Sector Sub-contracting Regulatory Authority (ARSP), and the city’s governor.
“It was my pleasure to inform the Governor about the implementation of a systematic inspection of companies in Kinshasa to verify that they comply with sub-contracting rules. This initiative is part of President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo’s strategy to stimulate the growth of the middle class”, said Mr Kashal during the meeting.
He added: “The population had been awaiting this monitoring with great expectation. We are asking Kinshasa’s major companies to work closely with the ARSP inspection and control team.”
Expressing his confidence in the success of the new measure, Mr Kashal emphasised the support of the involved companies. « The President’s vision is plainly clear: he is determined to encourage the evolution of sub-contracting in our country. This firmness comes from a thorough listening to the complaints and difficulties experienced by Congolese people in this domain”, he declared.
Mr Kashal also announced that this initiative, though starting in Kinshasa, will be implemented step by step in other provinces.
“We are on the brink of a historical transformation for our country, our youth and the following generations. The ARSP’s role goes beyond merely supervising the mining companies; it extends to encompass all aspects of our national economy”, Mr Kashal concluded.
