on April 27, 2023, the Minister of Health, Hygiene and Prevention of the DRC, Dr Samuel-Roger Kamba, convened a meeting with the heads of public institutions, his administration, the General Health Inspectorate, and health experts.
During the gathering, the discussions focused on the implementation of universal health coverage and the free childbirth program. According to Secretary General Ramazani Yuma, the Minister encouraged the participants to work together to prepare for the imminent launch of free childbirth in Kinshasa, before extending it to other parts of the country. This initiative comes as part of the vision of the Head of State Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi to establish universal health coverage in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Moreover, Ramazani Yuma stated that the free childbirth program should be operational in Kinshasa by June 30, 2023, noting that « all the batteries have been set in motion ».
