, we present Jack Essimbo, an autodidactic plastician artist from Congo based in Goma who, since Wednesday April 12th, has been showcasing his artworks under the label ”UUMBAJI” at the exhibition hall of the French Institute of Lubumbashi.
The artist has focused his painting practice on « the representation of the mechanisms of the mind », exploring the intellectual operations of the unconscious. His works have captivated a significant number of visitors from Lubumbashi, and have stirred emotion among spectators, with their impressive technical mastery and creative genius.
The presented body of works evoke a strong and intense pictorial fervor, thoughtfully composed and splendidly orchestrated, leading the audience into a mesmerizing maelstrom of shapes and light.
Jack Essimbo, born July 17, 1995 in Kisangani in the Tshopo Province and is a member of the African Art & Human Rights non-governmental organization, was introduced to art at an early age, upon becoming an autodidactic plastician. His painting practice focuses on the presentation of mental mechanisms, and uses two complementary visual expressions: the blackground, a testimony to his inner exploration, and figuration.
When he paints, Jack seeks to achieve total spontaneity in his work, by releasing the creative force of his unconscious. His exhibition at the Lubumbashi Hall will be available until April 29th, 2023.
